SEATTLE—Remember the excitement you felt as children when you heard the ice cream truck rolling down your street on a hot summer day? As the music got louder, you and your friends raced out of your homes to enjoy one of life’s simple pleasures, ice cream.
This year, Seattle Pride’s theme is “i-scream PRIDE! ™” The festival will be held June 26 and 27.
“The ice cream adds a lot of fun to the event; youthfulness that we can all remember from our childhood,” Seattle Pride Co-chairperson Melissa Holloway said. “In our current political climate, I scream is a statement about making yourself heard, being proud of who you are, and standing up for your rights as part of this world. We are encouraging everyone to scream PRIDE.”
Seattle Pride Committee will present a series of four short videos to generate a buzz about this year’s theme. The videos will be unveiled at a cast party and reception on Friday, May 21. Please see the organization’s Web site at www.seattlepride.org in the coming days for more information.
Seattle Pride plans to feature one of the videos online each week leading up to the two-day festival. Seattle Pride also plans to send the videos to LGBT bars throughout Washington and to LGBT bars at select cities across the country.
June is national gay and lesbian pride month. Thumpers will hold a kick-off of pride month starting Thursday, June 3. The Seattle march and festival then culminates Seattle’s Pride week, June 20-27. During the week, the Seattle Human Rights Commission, Timberline Spirits, and Seattle Storm will hold a benefit Tuesday, June 22, at the Timberline Spirits, 1828 Yale Ave. Tickets are $20. Proceeds will benefit HRC.
The benefit starts with a beer garden at 5:30 p.m. near Key Arena. The game starts at 7 p.m. Buses will be available to take people to the Timberline event at 9 p.m. The Timberline event starts at 9:30.
The Pride festival starts Saturday, June 26. All festival events will be held at Seattle’s Volunteer Park unless otherwise noted. Please visit www.seattlepride.org for the latest information and a list of entertainment that will be performing throughout the festival.
A benefit reception will be held both days at the Seattle Asian Art Museum, located in Volunteer Park. Admission to the benefit reception is by invitation only due to park regulations. Beer and wine will be served. Proceeds from the reception will benefit Seattle Pride. Please visit the Seattle Pride Web site for more information on how to obtain an invitation. If you have questions, please contact Seattle Pride at info@seattlepride.org or call 206-324-0405.
Seattle Pride Committee is the organizer of the Northwest’s largest Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgender Pride March and Rally.
