Media Release Contact: Hyewon Jin Seattle Flip Books PO Box 17908 Seattle, WA 98127 Phone: 206/297-7328 E-Mail: hyewon@flipbookcontest.com [6/12/04] FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Announcement of Seattle's First Annual City-Wide Flip Book Contest (Seattle, WA) - Seattle can now count an Annual City-Wide Flip Book Contest among its cultural rarities. Recognizing the flip book as an art form, the Contest is currently accepting submissions from Greater Seattle area residents. Defined as a series of hand drawn illustrations that features an animation when its pages are flipped in succession, flip books range from primitive "stick-man" scenarios to highly detailed renderings. Flip Books with political and humorous impressions welcome! The flip books will be judged by five panelists choosing winners for the Most Artistic Flip Book, Funniest Flip Book, and Best Flip Book categories. Prizes include Adobe software products, a one year EMP family membership, and gifts from local establishments such as Elliott Bay Books, Area 51, Frank & Dunya, Hullabaloo Books, and Sonic Boom Records. Each accepted submission will be featured in a documentary film about the Flip Book Contest which is currently in production. Filmmaker Bryan Gogh, founder of Seattle's The Fool Speaks Film Forum, is serving as director for the movie. The film will premiere and contest winners announced at the Fremont Outdoor Movies this summer. A DVD copy of the documentary will also be given to each participant at the contest's finish. Creator of the Flip Book Contest, Hyewon Jin, says her inspiration lies in the fact that "ANYTHING happen in a flip book, and ANYONE can make a flip book. It's art that isn't geared only to professional artists. This contest is something open to every person in this town." The deadline for submissions is June 30, 2004. Address for submissions is Seattle Flip Books/PO Box 17908/Seattle, WA 98127. Further information can be found at www.flipbookcontest.com
